Maryland Arts Day is the flagship event for MCA & MCA Foundation, and it is the most important arts advocacy event of the year in Maryland. Hundreds of arts supporters join forces there to inform state legislators of the economic, cultural, educational, and social value of the arts. Additionally, Arts Day acts as the only state-wide annual meeting for the Maryland arts community. This year, highlights include appearances by choreographer and visionary Liz Lerman, the perfomance group Stoop Stories, and Maryland Poet Laureate Stanley Plumly. For more information, please visit the Maryland Arts Day site.

Join MCA on a conference call to discuss the current state of Arts funding.

This is the first in a series of calls MCA hosts to help keep the public informed about the progress and the needs of our arts advocacy efforts in Annapolis. Please join us on the call to learn what has been happening and to ask questions of MCA Chair Doug Mann and other MCA representatives.

Please contact us for more information and to get instructions on how to call in (it is a toll-free number).

This is the Budget Bill Hearing for the House of Delegates' Appropriations Committee. The Sub-Committee on Education and Economic Development will hear comments on the budget for the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) today. The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) is a part of DBED, and this gives the public a chance to comment on their budget appropriation.

The MSAC appropriation represents only a portion of DBED's budget, and there will be other items on the agenda for the hearing as well. MCA will coordinate the efforts of our grassroots arts supporters so that Maryland's Arts community is well-represented in the short time we will have to present the case for the Arts.

The date and time of this hearing is subject to change. If you would like to particpate by attending the hearing (we need to have a strong showing of arts supporters present in the room!), please contact Rachel Ciprotti.

The House Sub-Committee on Education and Economic Development is made up of the following delegates:

John L. Bohanan, Jr., Chair
Henry B. Heller, Vice-Chair
Melony G. Griffith
Guy J. Guzzone
Adrienne A. Jones
Nancy R. Stocksdale
