MANY VOICES, ONE SONG

Join the chorus of arts advocates as we raise hundreds of voices together to create one song of support for the Arts in Maryland.

Maryland Arts Day is the most important arts advocacy event of the year in Maryland, bringing the many, varied voices of the artistic community together in support of state funding for the arts and the Maryland State Arts Council. In addition, Maryland Arts Day acts as the only state-wide annual meeting for the Maryland arts community and its supporters, and as such presents a unique networking opportunity and a platform to discuss issues specific to the arts. This critical event is organized by MCA and its companion organization, MCA Foundation.

Liz Lerman!!

12th MARYLAND ARTS DAY

Maryland Citizens for the Arts and Maryland Citizens for the Arts Foundation are excited to be organizing the 12th Maryland Arts Day and Conference. It is the only program of its kind in Maryland, where arts leaders have the opportunity to meet with their colleagues and speak to the legislators about the arts.

Over the past twelve Maryland Arts Days our united voices have helped to: provide ongoing increases to the State Arts Council budget, create the Public Art program, and establish Arts and Entertainment Districts. The principal mission of MCA is to promote adequate funding for the Maryland State Arts Council and to advocate for the arts at the state and federal levels. We can only do this with your help in urging the State Government to support public arts funding.

Many arts groups are stretching their staff and budgets thin to make ends meet to preserve artistic integrity and quality programming. Get creative and look to other artists and institutions to make your resources go farther.  Collaborations promoting a sharing of ideas, resources, staff, money, marketing efforts, and contacts can garner innovative and successful results.  Organizations will share their experience with partnerships and guide you through the benefits and pitfalls.

In these uncertain economic times, many arts organizations may be facing 2010 with apprehension. Regardless of arts discipline, size, or past successes, community based nonprofits are faced with a variety of crucial challenges in 2010: maintaining their mission, off-setting unanticipated funding loss, and keeping their doors open.  Even arts organizations that are still keeping their heads above water can benefit from this frank discussion of financial strategy.
