POSITION SUMMARY: The Art teacher will be committed to guiding the development of students’ visual communication, artistic expression, critical thought, contextual realization and self-reflection. Interested candidates should have experience in a variety of media, including ceramics. Using skills and techniques consistent with the established curriculum, the teacher will facilitate the development of aesthetic understanding and appreciation of the elements of art and the principles of design.

  • Instruct students in art, including drawing, painting, and ceramics
  • Demonstrate techniques in activities in drawing, painting, sketching, designing
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying artistic abilities
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment particularly in the ceramics room 
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and community
  • Promote exhibits/competitions outside of school
  • Plan and lead field trips to local museums and galleries
  • Prepare for classes using formal, written lesson plans
  • Follow the syllabus for the course being taught and collaborate on pacing and major assessments with fellow teachers
  • Evaluate student work and maintain up-to-date records of student assessments and grades
  • Maintain a pleasant and productive class environment that is student-centered and conducive to learning
  • Collaborate within the Art department and with other faculty and staff across disciplines
  • Participate in Professional Development opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned




B.A. in Art or a related field; MFA is desirable



  • Experience teaching Art, preferably at the high school level, with a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design
  • Must be specialized in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or Studio arts and should also have relevant experience in creating art products (paintings, sculptures, designs, sketches)
  • Knowledge of operating a kiln is desirable
  • Experience with integrating appropriate educational technologies into the teaching environment
  • Experience with teaching or working with the assistive technologies of the iPad is desirable


  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
  • Ability and willingness to plan and organize materials and lessons
  • Ability to work with colleagues in the Art department to develop lesson plans, write assessments, and generally maintain academic standards
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing schedules and situations
  • Must be comfortable teaching students in an all-girls Catholic School
