REPORTS TO: Administrative and Operations Manager

STATUS: Part-Time Non-Exempt

START DATE: February 15, 2023

Wide Angle is seeking an exceptional candidate for the HR Specialist role to support Wide Angle staff as they  implement the organization’s mission with HR services. The HR Specialist performs complex and confidential HR-related functions and staff training to ensure each department’s daily operations are executed as efficiently as possible.


  • Supports the HR function for the organization.
  • Conduct web-based platform training (e.g., HRIS/payroll system,, Slack,, etc.) and other training as needed for all employees.
  • Supports the hiring process and onboarding process of employees, and volunteers to ensure that all new hires are entered into the appropriate systems listed above, and that paperwork is compiled and submitted.
  • Manages full-cycle recruitment process for entry-level positions.
  • Ensure that new hires thoroughly complete the pre-employment process before conducting orientation.
  • Tracks all compliance expiration dates (e.g., professional licensure, CPR, health documents, etc.) and promptly notifies employees of impending expirations.
  • Research and develop job postings and descriptions for paid and unpaid/volunteer roles.
  • Develop (where necessary) and update Wide Angle Staff, Volunteer, and Leadership handbooks in collaboration with identified staff.
  • Creates HR related memos and announcements in Slack or Email.
  • Checks supervisory references for prospective employees and maintains employee files.
  • Organizes and maintains an HR filing system and adheres to the Document Retention Policy.
  • Operates as a member of a team both within and across departments.
  • Working closely with Insurance Broker and other Benefit providers to ensure accurate eligibility, support enrollment and implement updates.
  • Respond to questions around benefits and HR Policies
  • Supports complaints and concerns with confidentiality and adheres reporting requirements.


Depending on the week’s needs, the position will have a range of hours spent supporting the Operations department, as listed below. This is subject to change due to varied project needs and deadlines.

  • Total 15-20 hours weekly, including bimonthly staff meetings and weekly one-on-one meetings with the direct supervisor.

  • 2+ years of progressive experience in human resources, employee trainings, and nonprofit operations
  • Proven effectiveness in collaboration, systems development, and evaluation of nonprofit human resources.
  • Proficient in using online HRIS webapps and cloud-based filing systems
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter and adept at both working independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to adjust priorities to meet deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for collaborating with or leading staff and external partners.
  • Understanding creative youth development is preferred.
