MCA Announces Departure of Executive Director
Nov 15, 2016
MCA announces the departure of Executive Director, John Schratwieser. After seven years of service to the arts sector in Maryland, John will be leaving MCA at the close of the 2017 Maryland General Assembly Session in April. He will be relocating to Chestertown, MD (his former home) where he will be launching a new artist residency program in Chestertown’s Arts & Entertainment District. Under John’s leadership, MCA has helped raise public funding for the arts by more than 45% since 2010. In addition, we have helped expand the Arts & Entertainment District benefits and helped to secure a “percent for art” for public buildings via the State’s Public Art Commission legislation. Last year, MCA secured the largest ever state appropriation for the arts at $19.3 million, raising the Maryland State Arts Council’s budget to a record breaking $20.3 million. Please join us in thanking him for his great work on behalf of Maryland’s nonprofit arts sector, and in wishing him well in his new endeavor.
