In the Redefining & Reimagining Professional Development Campfire Chat, participants will discuss the role of professional development in today’s arts ecosystem, share examples of unconventional approaches to professional development, and brainstorm future approaches to professional development both personally and organizationally.
In a time where the National Endowment for the Arts’ subgranting restrictions limit Regional Arts Organizations’ grants to individuals to “professional development”, Mid Atlantic Arts staff invite the Maryland arts community to brainstorm about what professional development really looks like today — and what it could look like in the future.
Sarah Lewitus
Sarah Lewitus (she/her) is a Baltimore-based arts worker interested in performance, space, and turning imagination into action. She is a white, cis, straight, non-disabled woman. Sarah is a producer, writer, and community organizer. She works as the Program Director, Performing Arts & Accessibility Coordinator at Mid Atlantic Arts. In this role, she manages grant programs that fund exchanges between performing artists and audiences across the midAtlantic region. Prior, Sarah was an Associate Curator at Dance Place in DC, where she managed 35+ weekends of local, national and international live dance performance and a multi-year artist residency program. Sarah is a founding member of Area Woman, an interdisciplinary performance collective that made new work in the DC area from 2017-2023. She was a collaborating author on Phase 1 of Creating New Futures: an artist-organized platform started in 2020 for advancing equity in the performing arts. Sarah is also a parent to two-year-old Ida.
